Old Salem

Instead of staying home and watching the news all day on Tuesday, we decided to head out for a field trip. R had been wanting to go to Old Salem for a while, so we loaded up the car and headed out. Of course the trees were gorgeous. The locals were a little curious.

Here's the firehouse.

We walked by the house where the guineas normally hang out, but we couldn't find them. Little did we know, they were out for their daily walk.
They seemed to know just where the 'guinea cross walk' was. They walked single file over a patched strip of road.

Here's their final destination. Well, the last place we saw them. We had other places to go and things to see.

Here's the African-American Moravian church. It is an absolutely gorgeous building that was built not too long ago.

Off to the covered bridge. The bridge has been built over a busy road and takes you from Old Salem to the Visitor's Center.
The inside is gorgeous. During Christmas they hang a huge Moravian star in the center. Everytime I walk through there I think it would be a beautiful place for a wedding.

Before we left we had to get another picture of the beautiful colors and buildings. Of course the trip wouldn't be complete without a trip to Winkler Bakery. Somehow we didn't get a chance to take a picture of all the goodies we got there. I can tell you they were worth all the walking up and down the streets!

What a beautiful place! Is this far from you? What state? When I hear old Salem, I think Massachusetts and I'm pretty sure that's not true!

Boy, you've been busy while I've been gone. Lots of knitting! I loved your post about the kids voting. I wish I could have been with my kids. We did see their names on the roster right next to ours -- they voted absentee. In fact, the polling place had hubby marked as absentee instead of FirstChild. It took them about 15 minutes to get it straightened out so he could vote!

Oh my gosh...how I love that place, and especially this time of year through New Years!
It will be so exciting to stroll the streets and walkways as we do some shopping before Christmas!
Rebecca and I will go for our usual "walk about!" Will also stop by the Moravian Bakery when we get hungry for "some stick to our butt cookies!" Walking is good for that..don't'cha know!
..........Yummy!!..........
Would love to be there right now, with Fall about in full array.
It's cold tonight..about 29 degrees right now.
Our company will be heading back through tomorrow and stay for a few more days, before they head on back to Florida. She called tonight and said it was "spittin' snow" as she drove back to her daughter's house. BRRRR!
Little ol' Gus just jumped up in my lap and is purrin' away! But I need to close and fold some more laundry. He can snuggle some more when I sit to watch the news with your Dad.
I love you guys....Mom
